Long Barn House ( Dorchester )
Longbarn House was originally built around 1850’s, as a milking barn (known locally as a barton). Converted from what was believed to be the milking barn in Thomas Hardy's 'Tess of the d'Ubervilles' the house is just 50 yards from the church where Tess and Angel Clare were married. The church has a small 16th century tower and the nave seems to have every possible style of window, all dating from the 16th to 17th century. Despite the later addition of a chancel, the church is dominated by its 1640 fittings, including the barrel vaulted ceiling and a beautiful wooden screen.
The main part of Longbarn House remains a family home but a two-story conversion adjoining the main house now means the guest bedrooms are private with their own door leading into the village and en suite bathrooms. There is one double and one twin room (both en-suite). We provide fluffy white towels, 100% white cotton bed linen, flat TV screens with remote, tea and coffee making facilities, as well as a welcome pack with lots of local information. Both our bedrooms are non-smoking.
